The Golden Wood: Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit graphics

I've been a fan of The Lord of the Rings ever since I heard the BBC radio dramatisation when I was 10. I read the trilogy and the Hobbit the same year and fell in love with Middle-earth. Although I enjoy the films as well, it took a while for me to get used to some of the changes they made in the story. I really got hooked on them with the extended versions, which allowed some of the characters to be more developed, and also included some favourite scenes (like the gift giving in Lothlorien) that were left out of the theatrical versions. From the beginning, though, I was struck by the visual beauty and detail of the films which brought their vision Middle-earth to life.

When I started making wallpapers (in the summer of 2002), choosing Lord of the Rings themes was a natural progression. Making a site for them seemed like a good excuse to learn something about html, and so here we are...

I chose the name 'The Golden Wood' because Lothlorien, as described in the books, has always been one of my favourite places in Middle Earth. It's described as a place of incredible beauty, and this site is my tribute to the beauty of Tolkien's Middle Earth and its characters, as envisioned by Peter Jackson et al.

The Golden Wood gained its own domain on 30 October 2004, when I bought from It was previously hosted by my (then) ISP at
